Old Station Welshpool - 2009
history:
Welshpool railway station (Welsh: Y Trallwng) is a railway station on the Cambrian Line, in Powys, mid-Wales. It serves the town of Welshpool. The modern station is a single island platform between the two railway lines, reached by a large pedestrian bridge over the eastbound railway line and the A483 road.
It has no facilities beyond a small shelter and benches. This new structure was built to replace the old station in the early 1990s after the building of the new section of the A483 required the railway line to be shifted slightly to the south. The old station can still be seen across the road, and has been converted into a mill shop and cafe.
The passing loop is being extended by 2 and a half miles to allow for an hourly train service and to also try to prevent delays on the line. The station was used by HM The Queen when she came on an official visit to the town on 28th April 2010, she arrived and departed on the British Royal Train. Welshpool station also boasts a resident train spotter who is known only by his You Tube channel name 040train.
The Old Station, Welshpool offers a unique opportunity for both the holiday maker and the local visitor to shop in one of the most elegant listed buildings in the area. The building itself is steeped in history and was designed in the style of a French Chateau by local craftsmen.

Findings:
Before carrying out the investigation we interviewed those present who work at the Old Station and they reported the following stories:
Sounds have been hear out the back, these include shuffling feet, in the cafe area along with a shadow in the same area.
In teh corridor between the kitchen and the stock room shadows have been seen when nobody has been there and footsteps have been heard.
A number of the staff reported that they did not have a nice feeling at the top and bottom of the stairs up to the first floor.
During the investigation a number of cold spots were picked up by different members of the group although we were not able to pick up the temperature changes on our digital thermometers.
During one part of the investigation the group were moving from the mens toilets to the ladies toilets when the first few people who had entered the ladies toilets suddenly came running out screaming. They recalled that as they went in there appeared to be a black mass forming at the far end of the toilets and it then started to move towards them and as it started to get closer it picked up speed and you could hear it moving against the toilet cubicals. At this point Rory instructed everybody to get out as he did not feel that this was a very nice spirit. We only managed to capture on video the people running out of the toilets and when the rest of the group entered the toilets nothing was picked up or felt.
We had another event also in the ladies toilets. One of the group was about to enter the ladies toilets when the hand drier came on, on its own. We tried to recreate this as the hand drier is activated by waving your hands under the unit but we could not get it to come on without clearly putting our hands un it. The person that was entering the room assures us that they had not gone anywhere near the hand drier.
While were were investigation at the bottom of the main stairs up to the first floor a number of the group could hear what sounded like movement in the corridoor between the kitchen and the store room. We had a locked off camera filming in that area on a trigger object but when that footage was watched back nothing was picked up although a number of the group are clear in the fact that they could hear movement upstairs.
During the investigation Rory picked up the following information:
A man called John Morgan linked with a badge with the number 45 on it.
In the downstairs toilet area a lady called Emily, she was well dressed and had a set of keys. Rory believes that she may have been a house keeper.
The spirits of children were picked up all over the station.
In the golf shop a male figure was picked up, this figure was very authoritative and Rory picked up the name Jones. Research later on found that a J Jones was Inspector in 1948.
Also in the golf shop a Celtic figure was picked up, this was a strong male figure but could possibly be agressive.
In the ladies toilets a Porter was picked up around 1910 to 1915, Rory beleives that he died in the first world war around the age of 20.

Conclusion:
This was a very interesting investigation and we thank the restuarant manager for arranging this. Unfortunately the number of people there proved to be an issue, at one point not all people could get into the toilets to investigate due to the numbers. Unfortunately the more people you have on an investigation the harder it is to control all the outside variables. Noises picked up could be people moving on the spot without them knowing or smaller groups talking. It would be great to investigate this location again with a smaller group as the downstairs toilets did appear to offer some interesting unexplained phenomena.
